The primary purpose of this course is to identify and demonstrate the uses of forensic light sources. The definition of a forensic light source and what can be accomplished with a variety of available light sources at the crime scene will be emphasized in course materials. Using various light sources to detect latent prints, biological fluid, hairs, fibers and other trace evidence, miscellaneous applications and photography techniques will be addressed. Officers will be provided with hands-on experiences in using a variety of light sources and are encouraged to bring their own light source(s). An adjustable digital camera capable of a “bulb” shutter speed and macro-photography, a sturdy tripod, cable release and plenty of batteries for the camera are required equipment for course enrollment. Enrollment is restricted to 20 participants.
