Historically, domestic violence calls rank among the most dangerous for responding officers. This program is designed to familiarize officers with the unique challenges they face in domestic violence situations. Course topics will include: The Dynamics of Abusive Relationships; Officer Safety Concerns; Interviews of Victims, Suspects, Children and Other Witnesses; Reporting; and Probable Cause Leading to Arrest and Successful Conviction. The course will explore proper evidence collection and documentation, as well as civil orders of protection. The course begins at 8:30 a.m. and concludes at 4:30 p.m. each day.
