Policing Emotionally Disturbed and Developmentally Disabled Persons

This program is designed to provide a better understanding of those people suffering from mental illnesses who may come in contact with the law enforcement community. Keeping officer safety foremost, this course will explore policies, procedures, and protocols for officers to follow while dealing with this difficult issue and identifying concerns of dangerousness. The course will cover topics including: Identification of Mental Illness; Officer Safety Issues; Interventions; and Commitments. The course begins at 8:30 a.m. and concludes at 4:30 p.m. each day.
