Domestic Violence: Boyfriend/Girlfriend

7 Hours

Recent changes in the statutes that govern domestic battery have had an impact on domestic violence amongst teens. The law defining a “domestic relationship” has been changed to include a “dating relationship.” This change broadens the scope of the domestic violence statutes and means that more teens involved in dating relationships will potentially be victims of domestic violence within a school setting. Through this course participants will explore the age requirements of the various statutes as well as discuss the defenses that are available to defendants based upon their age at the time of the offense. By using case examples, this course will illustrate many of the problems involved with prosecuting these crimes. The course begins at 8:30 and concludes at 4:30 p.m.
