Smart Choices, Better Chances

14 Hours

This two-day course is designed to introduce and train the school resource officer to deliver the Smart Choices, Better Chances law education program. The program is founded on the premise that young people must have a better understanding of the juvenile justice system and the consequences for violating the law in order for laws to have their intended deterrent effect on delinquency behavior. The course will guide the participant through the six-lesson curriculum that SROs may use when teaching the program to individual classrooms of fourth, fifth, or sixth grade students. Outlines will also be provided that can be utilized in programs for junior or senior high students, educators, and parent groups. The course begins at 8:30 a.m. and concludes at 4:30 p.m. each day.
