Higher Education Degree Program

The Higher Education Certificate and Degree Programs provide unique and deserved opportunities for Arkansas law enforcement personnel to obtain valuable practitioner-oriented certifications and degrees while still maintaining full-time employment. Twenty colleges and universities across the State are collaborating with CJI in this initiative in support of the officers in their communities.

About the Program

The Criminal Justice Institute is collaborating with colleges and universities across the State to expand higher education opportunities for Arkansas law enforcement. Through two unique programs—Crime Scene Investigation and Law Enforcement Administration—law enforcement personnel can now obtain Certificates of Proficiency, Technical Certificates, and Associate of Applied Science Degrees in fields of study specific to the law enforcement profession at a fraction of the normal cost.

Program Requirements

Both programs of study are available exclusively to active Arkansas law enforcement personnel. To successfully complete a program, participants will be required to take special courses through the Criminal Justice Institute along with general education courses at one of the colleges or universities indicated in the above map. Only law enforcement coursework completed through CJI is eligible for college credit in both of these programs.

Although students will be required to pay all tuition and fees of the college or university, courses completed at the Criminal Justice Institute will be provided free of charge to Arkansas law enforcement personnel, allowing them to complete certificate and degree programs at a fraction of the normal cost.

Information concerning financial aid and scholarship opportunities, including Pell grants, student loans, and workforce improvement grants, can be obtained by contacting the financial aid offices of participating higher education institutions and the Arkansas Department of Higher Education. Once an officer is admitted to the college or university of his/her choosing, all credit hours earned at the Institute will be transferred to the collaborating higher education institution identified.

To enter the program, you must complete an "Intent to Enroll" form.  Completing this form does not obligate you to complete the program, but allows the Institute to collaborate with the partnering college/university of your choice.
