Crisis Negotiations

This course is designed to prepare law enforcement to handle crisis/hostage negotiations whether they are a first responder or involved in a prolonged crisis situation. The five-day course will provide the communication skills necessary to carry on a dialogue with the
subject(s), provide information to the on-scene commander regarding the status of negotiations, and provide input regarding a tactical resolution. Topics covered include: Fundamentals of Negotiations, Protocol and Situation Boards, Use of Third Party Intermediaries, Responding to the Emotionally Disturbed, Suicide Intervention Techniques, Active Listening Techniques, Review of Specific Cases, and Extensive Role Play Situations. The course begins at 8:00 a.m. and concludes at 5:00 p.m. each day.
