Use of Force

6 Hours

This six-hour course will review and focus on case law and legislation which defines the amount of force that is lawfully available to officers in attempted arrest/seizure cases as well as what the courts have defined as excessive force. Use of force and excessive force will also be considered in the context of high-speed pursuit cases. The officer will be shown methods for improving his or her performance in the courtroom. Case scenarios and videos involving the use of force, deadly force, and high-speed pursuits will be used for class discussion. The course begins at 9:00 a.m. and completes at 4:00 p.m.
