Meth and Narcotics Programs
The Arkansas Methamphetamine Education and Training Initiative at the Criminal Justice Institute will continue to make methamphetamine a key education and training priority during fiscal year 2010. Through federal funding, CJI will provide methamphetamine-focused education and training that will be of interest to front line officers as well as narcotics officers and investigators.
Course offerings will aid law enforcement personnel in the recognition and safe response to clandestine methamphetamine labs and include information related to methamphetamine distribution, drug endangered children, and legal issues. To ensure course content is timely and relevant a focus group was convened to identify recommendations for additional course delivery and to determine if any updates are needed to current methamphetamine curricula. In addition, CJI personnel along with individuals in the Arkansas law enforcement community will be developing courses related to methamphetamine and drug trafficking organizations as well as training related to methamphetamine and criminal interdiction.
The Criminal Justice Institute has also undertaken a federally funded project to develop and implement e-learning strategies for two courses traditionally delivered in a classroom setting. The strategy used will allow officers to access training through a secure website when it is most convenient for them and also have the opportunity to be engaged in the training in segments, rather than in its entirety. Once development and testing have been completed, these courses will be made available for open delivery.
