Counter Ambush Tactics for Law Enforcement

Students will know, understand and demonstrate a working knowledge of how to effectively detect and neutralize hostile ambush situations against themselves and other officers, while responding to different types of “call” situations, including instruction on types of ambushes, ambush-escape scenarios, ambush-assassination scenarios, ambush robber scenarios and how to reasonably respond to each.

Students will learn and demonstrate tactical techniques to help prevent an ambush attack.

Furthermore, students will be instructed in the differences between a proactive counter-ambush tactic and a reactive counter ambush tactic. They will also learn ways decrease threat recognition time and maximize the effectiveness of their response.

The course will allow students to learn and practice empty hand, defensive knife and pistol skills in an integrated counter ambush combatives system, and it is designed to enhance the survivability of officers conducting narcotics operations and high risk vehicle stops in urban and rural environments, as well as officers responding to calls. This course covers the effectiveness of rounds fired from a handgun, rifles and shotguns.

Finally, students will be instructed and allowed to perform practical exercises, using vehicles for cover, actions on contact, counter ambush drills, breaking contact, security considerations, tactical movement and communication.
