This 2-day class is designed for both first responders and investigators, covering the fundamentals of cryptocurrencies and best investigative practices. The most popular and widely used coins: Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), and Monero (XMR) are covered in detail. Attendees will learn the differences between UTXO (unspent transaction output) coins as well as smart contracts, as well as being introduced to the DeFi (decentralized finance) ecosystem to include stable-coins and wrapped tokens. Attendees will create their own wallets and have hands-on exercises.

Attendees will be introduced to open source resources available to assist in blockchain analytics, as well as being granted demo licenses to investigative SaaS (Software as-a-Service) platforms. Real world cases will be covered in detail, and attendees will also learn the best practices for seizure of digital assets germane to criminal investigations.
