Investigations Using the Internet of Things (IoT)
Law Enforcement has been searching suspect’s cell phones for a few years now and utilized that information to solve a myriad of crimes. Cellular phones, however, are just the tip of the iceberg when you start considering the information available from the Internet of Things (IoT). Home Security Systems, Smart Watches, Refrigerators, FitBits, Cameras, Thermostats, GPS Devices, and Tablets, are just a few of the devices that not only track activity but store the data as well. This data can and should be exploited in criminal investigations. This course will consider various devices frequently available but usually overlooked, and how law enforcement can use this information to identify and prosecute suspects. Students will also complete group projects during the class and be given the opportunity to network with each other.
