Drones: Development and Implementation of an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Program for Law Enforcement

The use of small, unmanned aerial systems (sUAS) within law enforcement is a rapidly emerging technological advancement providing aerial resources for agencies large and small.  Agencies can use drones to document crime scenes, monitor crowds, search for suspects and lost or endangered persons, as well as to gain advantage during the execution of search warrants and other tactical situations.

Drones: Development and Implementation of an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Program for Law Enforcement is an 8-hour program that will help you incorporate this technology within your agency. Developing a sUAS program for law enforcement presents both technical and tactical challenges and many factors must be considered prior to the implementation of a sUAS program.  Elements such as public relations and citizen concerns, sound policy, sufficient training and having comprehensive understanding of the laws and regulations of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) are crucial.

At the end of this training, participants will have an understanding of: FAA Certificates of Authorization (COA); FAA Licensing (Part 107); pilot selection criteria; training requirements and resources; equipment and software; operation safety; operating in airspace controlled by an Air Traffic Control Center; and common missions.
