Crime Scene First Responder for the Uniformed Officer ONLINE
COURSE FEE: FREE
COURSE DESCRIPTION: The actions of first responding uniformed officers directly impact the solvability and prosecution of criminal cases. Officers can inadvertently lose, destroy, or overlook critical evidence in the performance of their many duties as a first responder. This two hour online course discusses the types of evidence, and consideration of this evidence, as officers balance the safety of the officer and public versus the investigative needs of the case. Officers will learn basic techniques for securing a crime scene and how to properly preserve evidence for investigators or crime scene personnel. Common investigative mistakes and solutions will also be discussed. This course is geared toward uniformed patrol officers, though new investigators and crime scene personnel will benefit from this course.
This course has been developed as a collaboration between the International Crime Scene Investigators Association and the Criminal Justice Institute.
TARGET AUDIENCE: This course is geared toward patrol officers, though new investigators and civilian crime scene personnel directly employed by a law enforcement agency are encouraged to enroll.
