Risk Management with Gordon Graham

Everything we do in life involves a level of risk. The phrase “risk management” is a very common term, but what is “real” risk management?  It is certainly more than safety issues. Everything you do in your organization involves a level of risk. In this course, Gordon Graham will explain how to recognize the real risks faced in policing and give thoughts on how to prioritize these risks. Specifically, this risk management course will examine police culture and discuss what can be done today to avoid/minimize incidents from going wrong.

The program will begin with some thoughts on “cause” of tragedies in any profession, focusing on the difference between “proximate” cause and those problems “lying in wait” – sometimes for years – that went ignored and really led to the given tragedy. The program will continue with a discussion on the Ten Families of Risk and lay out some specific concerns for law enforcement agencies within these families, along with providing some control measures to address these risks in a proactive manner.

Gordon will also provide a detailed analysis of “The Five Pillars of Success”:
1.) Getting and keeping good PEOPLE
2.) Developing great POLICY
3.) Assuring that TRAINING is taken seriously
4.) Making sure that supervisors are providing quality SUPERVISION
5.) Emphasizing the importance of the DISCIPLINE process

Risk Management will be held on June 22 at the Criminal Justice Institute in Little Rock. You don’t want to miss this presentation. Register today!
