Almost every home, office, shopping center, and in reality, pretty much any place you can imagine has one or more routers.  Since the dawn of Internet times, routers have been used to provide access to that wealth of information.  In addition to providing connections and directions, routers also store vast amounts of information about who has been connected and what they have been doing.  This information can prove to be extremely valuable in criminal investigations.  But how do we get to it; and once we have the information, what is it telling us?

This course will provide an overview of routers, what they do, and how law enforcement can use that information.  Routers are quite unique in their purpose and function, and using them in criminal investigations is just as unique.  In this one day course participants will learn how to locate routers, how to obtain information from them, and what to do with the information once they have it.  Course participants will ideally have a baseline knowledge of networks, although this will be reviewed in the course.
