Advanced School Safety Coordinator Academy Online
Lockdown drills are a practice currently used in 98% of schools nationwide, yet they are conducted with variability in respect to frequency and protocols across states and even districts. This training is designed to help standardize schools’ approaches to conducting lockdown drills while creating opportunities for objective evaluation of these practices and ensure that they are being conducted in a trauma-informed manner.
We will discuss the impetus for lockdown procedures, explore current research into the effects of lockdown drills on participants (faculty, staff, and students), and examine best practices for reducing trauma during drills. Attendees also will learn how to collect and analyze data to craft drill reports designed to standardize the assessment of the practices and guide continued emergency preparation efforts using a previously validated evaluation tool. All materials will be provided and will be available for use in attendees’ own districts and schools.
