There is a need to mitigate the growing trend of injuries and deaths related to targeted ambush/surprise encounters against law enforcement. The A.L.E.R.T. ambush prevention and mitigation training program is designed to counter those trends. The skill sets learned during this training will dramatically enhance and improve the law enforcement officer’s awareness and threat detection (ATD) capabilities as well as enhancing law enforcement officers’ ability to successfully deal with ambush attacks when they occur. This training helps officers thwart potential ambush situations and turn them from a disadvantage into a tactical advantage. It benefits officers during routine patrol, special events, traffic stops, etc. and protects him/her from ambush-type and surprise attack situations. The training teaches officers the needed methods to accurately assess violator/public contacts and gives the officer the ability to predict the potential for an encounter to escalate into a threatening event. The program is designed to directly enhance the Law Enforcement officer’s capabilities by increasing their situational awareness, stressing the importance of normally issued equipment, the need for utilizing cover and concealment and the life-saving skills needed to mitigate potential injuries.
