This class is designed to give law enforcement officers as much information as possible on how to best de-escalate individuals and situations.  Every situation an officer walks into is different and requires a different set of skills or tools to de-escalate. Because individuals and situations are different, officers cannot be expected to de-escalate each situation the same way. This class will provide officers with various methods and manners of de-escalation to give them as many tools as possible to be able to step into any situation and de-escalate it.

The class will also discuss the impact of stress on officers and provide information and discussion on barriers to de-escalation such as stress related reactions.  There will also be some discussion of de-escalation with certain populations, specifically mentally ill or handicapped individuals.
