This course will review homicide and major case investigations, homicide statistics and clearance rates, and types of homicides, as well as crime scene preservation.  A comprehensive view of homicide investigations, to include protocol, will start at the initial report of the crime and will include pre-planning for the investigation, procedures to follow and problems to avoid in this type of investigation, and media management for investigators.  Additional topics will include: the role of the investigator, the three levels of an investigation: initial investigation, follow-up investigation; and the prosecution; locating and identifying additional crime scenes and potential witnesses; investigative resources; and, factors to look for to assist in the determination of the cause of death.  Representative case studies will be presented.

The course is designed for all certified law enforcement officers.
