Financial Literacy for the Law Enforcement Officer: From Rookie to Retirement
During CJI’s School of Law Enforcement Supervision, officers are presented with a segment on financial health and retirement planning. Planning for the future is important for everyone, but especially law enforcement officers whose jobs are often unpredictable.
Based on the popularity of this segment and at the request of officers, CJI has begun offering a one-day class that will take a much deeper dive into critical aspects of financial planning for law enforcement officers.
Financial Literacy for the Law Enforcement Officer: From Rookie to Retirement is coming to the Criminal Justice Institute on Thursday, October 24.
Life after law enforcement is best lived with financial freedom. The goal of this course is to empower officers with a better understanding of how to make their finances work for them, achieve their personal financial goals, and be better prepared for retirement.
Discussions will involve setting up an emergency fund, acceleration of paying off debts, types of life insurance policies, understanding money market accounts, mutual funds, annuities, and getting more out of your invested dollar.
Officers will explore the benefits of using an employer 401K and understanding the differences between a traditional IRA and a ROTH IRA as well as police retirement programs.
